Darcy Thompson, 14, was with a group of friends who were using corn as fish bait.
"The person with the biggest fish wins,’’ he said.
Darcy said the group was on the lookout for red fin or carp.
Campaspe Shire chief executive Keith Baillie also attended the event, along with mayor Ian Maddison.
‘‘I can’t believe how many kids are here,’’ Mr Baillie said.
Lockington Action Club president Warren Jones said the fishing competition had been running for 14 years.
Fish were measured at a special weigh-in station before being released.
The action club will also be busy during the Southern 80, where members will help with pulling boats from the water.
