Echuca brothers Jonathan and Thomas Morphett were devastated on Tuesday night when they learned their bikes were stolen from their Pine St home.By Trent Horneman
An Echuca family is appealing for help to find two children’s motorbikes stolen from the front yard of their Pine St home on Tuesday afternoon.
Jonathan and Thomas Morphett were devastated on Tuesday night when they learned their bikes were stolen.
The pair had sold oranges from a red wagon to earn money to buy the bikes.
‘‘They need to realise that when they stole our bikes, they stole our dreams,’’ Thomas, 11, said.
Father Stewart Morphett said he was away from his house for a short time on Tuesday afternoon when the theft occurred.
‘‘The bikes were at the end of our driveway near a shed. Someone has had to walk past the house to take them,’’ he said.
‘‘I feel sorry for the kids because they have worked hard and saved money to buy these bikes, only to have them stolen.’’
Neighbours told the family they saw a red ute with a trailer pull up in front of the house around the time the bikes were taken.
The boys said they looked forward to taking the bikes for a ride with friends during the school holidays.
One of the bikes was a 125cc with blue plastic and orange O’Neill stickers and a new silver motor which was painted black.
The second was a vintage ‘rockhopper’ bike with a old Victa lawnmower engine.
The family has taken to social media for assistance.
‘‘It has been a great response from people offering to share the photo,’’ mother Julie Morphett said.
Echuca police are investigating the theft, which occurred between 1pm and 5pm on Tuesday.
