The Murray River at Echuca-Moama has started to recede.
The Murray-Darling Basin Authority recently started pre-releases from Hume Weir to manage its levels.
The flow caused the river to swell, raising the river level to cover Moama Beach.
MDBA river operations senior director Joseph Davis said the river peaked at Echuca-Moama last week, with river levels to start returning to normal.
Mr Davis said he expected flows at Echuca-Moama to be returned to normal by the end of the month.
Mr Davis said MDBA was closely monitoring weather and dam levels.
‘‘We are actively monitoring air space at Hume and Dartmouth dams,’’ he said.
‘‘With a burst of warm and dry weather we expect demand to rise from irrigators.’’
With dams nearing capacity, staff will keep an eye on the sky to hopefully avoid flooding in the Murray River.
‘‘If the conditions remain dry then things will be good,’’ he said.
‘‘The bureau is not predicting a wet summer, but there is always a chance.
‘‘The worst result in terms of flooding will be steady rain to wet the ground, followed by a large burst of rain to help run water into the river.’’
Mr Davis said melting snow would not have a major impact on river levels in the Murray River.
