Campaspe Shire will tomorrow throw open the doors of its new Port of Echuca Discovery Centre.
The community is invited to look inside the centre during a free opening.
After three years in the planning and three years in the building, the opening of the centre marks the completion of the Port Revitalisation project, which has seen the wharf refurbished, two red gum walkways constructed and a new entry to the port attraction.
Campaspe Shire mayor Ian Maddison said final preparations were under way at the centre.
‘‘The windows are being cleaned, floors being swept, signs in place and staff trained and ready to welcome the community this Saturday,’’ he said.
‘‘A free community celebration is planned for the day following the official opening at 11am by the Deputy Premier Peter Ryan.’’
Activities for the day include live music from the Smoking Gum, a paddlesteamer sailpast, vintage plane flyover, children’s games, Riverboat story time, Twister Science show, children’s farmyard, face painting, rope making, wool spinning, lace making demonstrations.
As part of the supplement, the shire has included a free ticket for two adults and four children to visit the centre.
The ticket is valid until June 30.
