A large, fierce fire destroyed a Leitchville shed on Friday.By Jess Craig
A Leitchville shed and its contents were destroyed in a fierce fire on Friday night.
About 20 firefighters from the Leitchville CFA battled to contain the blaze in Railway Ave, which started about 10.30pm.
Leitchville CFA captain Darren Jenkins said it was the biggest fire he had seen in some time.
‘‘It was very hot and very fierce,’’ he said.
‘‘There was probably more than $100,000 damage,’’ he said.
‘‘Police set up roadblocks to keep people away from the scene, and we had fire crews from Gunbower and Cohuna also assisting at the scene.’’
Captain Jenkins said investigators attending the scene had said the cause of the fire was ‘undetermined’.
Several people were treated for smoke inhalation, and a woman was conveyed to a Melbourne hospital for plastic surgery after receiving a dog bite.
‘‘The dog was chained to the shed and the woman was trying to move it,’’ Captain Jenkins said.
‘‘The dog was obviously very frightened and it bit the woman’s hand quite badly.’’
