Council meeting turns feisty

A Moama resident was ejected from a Murray Shire Council meeting today.

Today’s spirited Murray Shire Council meeting saw Moama resident Gavin Burke ejected from the room.

Mr Burke, who was in the audience, interrupted council while it was discussing Clause 2 of the Director of Environmental Services, regarding lot sizes at Maiden Smith Drive Estate and implied Cr Di Macfarlane had a vested interest in the lot sizes.

A late change to the Murray LEP by council regarding lot sizes for the estate was rejected by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure because it was not adequately exhibited.

Heated discussion also resulted from a deputation from Andrew MacKenzie of Rich River House Boats, who, on behalf of a group of house boat operators, raised the issue of Moama on Murray’s houseboat mooring conditions.

Mr MacKenzie said Moama on Murray owner John Nunan, who addressed council at its last meeting, was, ‘‘fanciful to say the least’’.

He said council had failed to bring an end to a ‘‘ghastly situation’’ whereby Mr Nunan was taking advantage of council’s initial mooring application approval.

More from the council meeting in Friday’s Riv.
