Committee for Echuca Moama chief executive Hayden Cock said the Victorian Electoral Boundaries Commission's decision to abolish the seat Rodney last week was a sad day.By Trent Horneman
The Committee for Echuca Moama has expressed extreme disappointment at the Victorian Electoral Boundaries Commission’s decision to abolish the Legislative Assembly’s seat of Rodney.
C4EM chief executive Hayden Cock said creating a ‘‘mega seat’’ of Murray Plains was a ‘‘sad day’’ for the region.
‘‘The seat of Rodney has a long and proud history, and its elected representatives over the years have served their constituency with understanding, passion and commitment,’’ he said.
‘‘In addition to losing the seat of Rodney, it’s also extremely disappointing that rural and regional Victoria have lost a seat in the Legislative Assembly.
‘‘It is absolutely critical that rural and regional Victoria retain strong representation in the Victorian Parliament, and the abolition of the Rodney Electorate will only further diminish our regions voice in Spring St.’’
Mr Cock said C4EM would now push for Echuca to be recognised as the home of the new Murray Plains electorate.
‘‘Echuca has by far the highest population in the Murray Plains electorate, with higher than average population growth compared to other regional centres. We would therefore urge that the electorate office be based in Echuca.’’
