Bunnaloo resident puts hand up for Murray Shire position
Bunnaloo resident and former councillor Helen Gray has thrown her hat in the ring for the Murray Shire by-election in May.
By Ruth ClaytonBunnaloo resident Helen Gray will stand for Murray Shire Council in the May 11 election.
Mrs Gray, a former Murray Shire councillor from 2006 to 2008, said she had always had an interest in local government and was community-minded.
‘‘I think another woman’s voice in the council room would be a good thing,’’ Mrs Gray said.
Mrs Gray was voted onto council after the death of Lachlan McKindlay in July 2006, which caused a by-election, but was not successful in the subsequent election.
Mrs Gray said she was passionate about health, infrastructure and social justice.
Asked how she could translate her passions to a council meeting, Mrs Gray said she wanted to provide equity for Murray Shire residents, including marginalised groups.
She said she did not have any particular priorities should she be elected to council.
‘‘My priorities are to evaluate the information as it’s presented, by researching and speaking to the residents of Murray Shire and formulating a decision,’’ Mrs Gray said.
‘‘I haven’t got a specific agenda, because being a councillor is to serve the people.’’
