Barmah fire lit on total fire ban day

A Melbourne man is facing charges after allegedly lighting a campfire which got out of control in Barmah on Thursday, a day of total fire ban.

Around half a hectare of grassland was burned in a fire near Barmah on Thursday, a day of total fire ban.

Police are investigating a fire which was lit on a day of total fire ban on Thursday.

The fire burned around half a hectare of property within around 1km of Barmah.

A 55-year-old Melbourne man believed to be camping in the area called emergency services to the scene on Sweeneys Rd on Thursday night.

He was later questioned by police and the Riv understands charges are yet to be laid.
