A new group which will help communicate the NBN rollout with the community is seeking residents to help with advocacy efforts.By Trent Horneman
Campaspe Shire is looking for residents to help oversee the arrival of the National Broadband Network in the community.
While southern parts of the shire have started to receive high-speed broadband, rollout dates for the shire’s two biggest centres, Echuca and Kyabram, is still unknown.
The council wants expressions of interest for an advocacy group called the NBN4Campaspe Community Leadership Group.
The group will help communicate with the community on the NBN rollout so people are informed and can take advantage of the opportunities it presents.
Cr Paul Jarman said the group would also assist with council’s advocacy efforts to achieve early rollout of NBN infrastructure across the municipality.
‘‘We know our businesses and communities are constrained by the existing internet connection speeds and it is vitally important that our businesses, schools and key organisations have the tools they need to be competitive,’’ he said.
Campaspe Shire has taken a lead role in attracting NBN to the region and earlier this year joined the NBN4 Loddon Mallee Working Group, Cr Jarman said.
‘‘This is a regional collective group of local government and development committees working as a region to attract early rollout,’’ he said.
Council approved the terms of reference for the NBN4Campaspe Community Leadership Group at its July meeting, with some of the groups intended activities including:
Residents wishing to nominate for the group need to lodge an expression of interest with council by Tuesday.
