The Naponda Hospital Auxiliary raised almost $2000 by providing catering for the Warbreccan Station clearing sale on Saturday.
Local Health Advisory Committee chair Pam Ellerman, who is also a Naponda member, said the auxiliary and the hospital were thrilled with the result.
More than 600 people attended the auction, where at least 700 items — some of which furnished the historical Deniliquin homestead — went under the hammer.
The auction acted as a follow-up to the sale of the historic 40ha homestead property with river frontage.
Deniliquin’s David and Caitrin Watson purchased the property from Fionn and Robert Lindsay-Field for an undisclosed amount after it was passed in on a vendor bid of $1.2 million at auction on April 26.
Naponda provided a variety of food on Saturday including locally produced beef sausages and hotdogs. Pumpkin, pea and ham, and minestrone soup were also available.
Naponda also coorindated a raffle to win a gas heater, won by Naponda president Belinda Whittakers.
Naponda secretary Cleone McAllister said Naponda was ‘‘very happy’’ to be asked to cater for the clearing sale.
‘‘We’ve catered for a lot of events before but never a clearing sale,’’ she said.
‘‘Every product we served was sourced locally.
‘‘Naponda would like to acknowledge all our volunteers who came and helped.’’
Saturday’s auction was conducted by Elders Rural Real Estate manager Matt Horne, Elders Residential Real Estate principal Lester Wheatley and James Sides from Landmark.
The homestead’s dining room table and chairs, wardrobes, gramophones and a projector were some of the items sold on the day.
Mr Horne, who was assisted by Elders Rural colleagues Clyde McKenzie and Wendy Hand, said it was a terrific day.
‘‘The auction attracted a huge crowd and Naponda did a great job at catering,’’ he said.
‘‘All the antiques, furniture and farming equipment sold very well. It’s rare you get a line-up like the one on Saturday.’’
The Lindsay-Field twins would like to thank the auctioneers, Andrew Thomas, Ben Howitt and Warbreccan backpackers Karina Hogsand from Norway and Acelya Horn from Germany.
