Walker named best local shearer
Deniliquin's Sam Walker has claimed the second annual Ernie Beehag Memorial trophy in the Riverina Shearing Championships.
By Zoe McMaughDeniliquin’s Sam Walker claimed two blue ribbons from three sections in the Riverina Shearing Championships on Saturday.
Among his prizes, Walker claimed the Ernie Beeham Memorial Trophy for best local shearer in the competition.
He sheared in the senior and open sections during the day.
Walker, 24, excelled in the senior section but found it difficult to compete with the veterans in the open competition.
Taking the win in the open section was Damien Boyle.
He takes the title from his brother Brendan who won last year.
Boyle came from Western Australia to compete in the championships, along with his father Don who claimed second last year and third this year.
Competition was fierce throughout the day, and drew a fantastic crowd at Memorial Park.
