The highlight of the festive season for many local youngsters is the opportunity to meet Santa.

For those at the Deniliquin Children’s Centre Christmas Party on Thursday evening, it was certainly the best part.

The centre held its annual party on at the iconic Rocket Park in Russell St, with about 200 guests being treated to a barbecue dinner in ideal weather.

Children enjoyed playing on the park equipment before being surprised by a visit from Santa.

He made a grand entrance on a fire truck with the help of the NSW Fire and Rescue’s Deniliquin firefighters.

The park erupted in excitement when Santa generously handed out lollies to all of his doting fans, and then happily posed for memorable photos.

For the first time in a number of years, the party encompassed students from all of its services including the mobile centre, child care centre and preschool, as well as toy library users.

Many youngsters showed their Christmas spirit by donning Santa and reindeer-themed red and green t-shirts while snacking on candy canes.
