The Sousaphonics are a unique, heady brew of everything that is possible with brass, woodwind, percussion and voice.
Active in Sydney’s jazz and world music scenes, this pint-sized New Orleans-style brass band has built a reputation for red-hot soloing and brilliant ensemble playing all delivered with a sense of fun and a true love of music.
Drawing on Calypso, Balkan Brass, Brazilian Samba, Choro, New Orleans Jazz, Swing and Bebop, The Sousaphonics have an infectious, uplifting sound that leaves audiences cheering for more.
Each of the four musicians brings their own tastes and influences with Sam Golding on sousaphone, trumpet, banjo and vocals, Matthew Ottignon on tenor saxophone, clarinet and vocals, John Hibbard playing trombone, trumpet and on vocals and Evan Mannell on drumkit, ukelele and vocals.
‘‘This will be a great afternoon for the whole family,’’ South West Music project officer Delena Gaffney said.
Early bird tickets are $25 (adults) or $30 at the door, with gold coin entry for school-aged children and can be pre-purchased at SWM on 5881 4736 and the Peppin Heritage Centre on 1800 650 712.
