Deniliquin's Caulfield Cup Fashions on the Field attracted 120 entrants on Saturday.By Cass Savellis
While punters tried their luck at backing a winner on Saturday, the fashionistas contested the highly anticipated Fashions on the Field categories at the Caulfield Cup race day in Deniliquin.
There were about 120 entrants into Fashions on the Field, with various styles and colours to take the catwalk, including fluro pink, yellow and red popular among the competitors.
For the younger contestants, the winning picks were elegant white dresses, and a smart suit, tie and vest combination for the lads.
This year the two new ladies’ categories – classic and contemporary – proved a hit.
Brydie Sheehan took home the classic prize in her stunning red mid-length dress with black accessories including a timeless black hat with flowers made by local milliner Danica Erard.
Steph Gordon snapped up the contemporary prize with her multi-coloured dress and a visor also by Danica Erard.
Darcy Pogue’s casual yet smart ensemble – bone pants and a check shirt – impressed the judges in the open male category.
Coordinator Jo Nathan said it was the best Fashions on the Field she has been a part of.
‘‘It was great to see that ladies took on the contemporary category and great to see more men enter and they made a real effort,’’ she said.
‘‘There were lots of brighter colours among the entrants as well.
‘‘The judges also looked fantastic and set the standard high. They were very impressed with the turn out.’’
