Mum’s ton of kindness

Despite being a busy mum, Deniliquin's Jacquie Marshall has taken time out to think of others.

By Tyla Harrington

Deniliquin mother Jacquie Marshall is sharing her quest of kindness with the world.

With daily updates via her Facebook page, Mrs Marshall has a strong local following on the social networking site as she surpasses day 44 on her way to ‘100 days of kindness’.

Despite having four children and two jobs, Mrs Marshall has happily taken on the extra workload of delivering random acts of kindness.

For example, on day 33 she decided to gather as much animal food as possible to donate to the Echuca Lost Dogs Home.

‘‘I’ve taken it on as a personal challenge, not to be recognised,’’ said Mrs Marshall, who had to be persuaded to share her story with the Pastoral Times.

‘‘It’s amazing to see how much support I’ve received from the community, particularly Mobil North Service Station and Brown’s Rural Supplies, who helped fill my boot full of food to donate.’’

Mrs Marshall came across the idea — ‘100 days of kindness’— when looking up inspirational quotes on the internet.

‘‘It started as a personal journey for me to see what 100 days of happiness and random acts of kindness would bring.

‘‘I thought at first that it would be about me doing things for others and it would make them feel happy.

‘‘That could not be further from the truth — this journey has already changed me as a person for the better and other people’s happiness and the spirit people have shown has given me more than I ever thought me giving would bring.

‘‘It has shown me a perspective where life is brilliant and complaining and whinging are not an option.

‘‘Life’s too short and there are too many awesome people in my life to have anything to complain about.

‘‘I’ve got a beautiful husband (Tony) and amazing children ... I am very happy.

‘‘I only give energy to things I can control and I give all my energy to those who matter.

‘‘My life is richer than I ever knew — my eyes are now wide open to so many possibilities.

‘‘It’s an awesome feeling (to do kind things). It’s amazing how many messages you receive on Facebook from people thanking you or saying you’re doing a good job ... people saying you’ve inspired me.

‘‘I didn’t expect to get all this feedback.’’

On other days the local mother has helped clean up Memorial Park after the Deniliquin Show, visited Orana nursing home and delivered food to people to ‘‘pay it forward’’, referring to people offering a good deed to someone else in return for receiving one.

‘‘One lady saw a hitchhiker in the heat near her house and she gave him some orange juice and a cheese roll and she said it made her feel really good.’’

Mrs Marshall’s last day of kindness will be May 18.
