Media take on Edward River
Writers and reports, and their friends and family, will converge on Deniliquin for the annual Media Freshwater Fishing Challenge this weekend.
By Cass SavellisThe Annual Media Freshwater Fishing Challenge is coming to Deniliquin this weekend.
Run by Provincial Fishing Magazines, the 14th challenge invites writers, radio presenters and others associated with fishing media to compete against each other on Deniliquin’s Edward River over two days.
Deniliquin hosted the challenge last year, and this weekend will be the only time the event has been at the same venue two years in a row.
‘‘They liked it so much that they decided to come back, especially as some people couldn’t make it due to the floods,’’ Deniliquin RSL Fishing Club member Ian Fisher said.
Mr Fisher said between 100 and 150 people are expected to attend the challenge, with around 40 to 50 media personalities being joined by their family or friends.
‘‘The writers from South East Fishing and North East Angler magazines will be here, so there will be some high profile people around.
‘‘It is more of a boutique fishing challenge as opposed to a general public competition.’’
Deniliquin’s Ged Munro and Anthony Erickson won last year’s team award.
