HeartKids Victoria spent last weekend at Deniliquin's BIG4 Holiday Park after they won the BIGgest Weekend competition, valued at $20,000.By Cass Savellis
Deniliquin BIG4 Holiday Park generously handed over its lush grounds to HeartKids Victoria and Tasmania at the weekend.
HeartKids was the winner of the Deniliquin BIGgest Weekend, which asked entrants to write in outlining why their group deserved the getaway in 100 words or less.
Owners Frank and Lynda White created the competition, which was valued at $20,000.
Mrs White said it was the first time the park had run the competition.
‘‘Frank came up with the idea about 12 months ago, and now it has come to fruition,’’ she said.
‘‘Lots of hard work went into it but it’s worth it to hear all the nice feedback we’ve received from families.
‘‘Some of them hadn’t been on a holiday for so long.’’
Nineteen families made their way to Deniliquin from all over Victoria, including Warrnambool and Gembrook, as well as families from NSW towns such as Griffith.
BIG4 staff entertained the young guests with a number of activities throughout their stay, with children participating in plaster painting, face painting and sand art as well as enjoying the Edward River.
The group was also entertained by local musician Michael Gorham and had a pancake breakfast before heading home on Sunday.
‘‘It was great, the families had an absolute ball,’’ Mrs White said.
‘‘Everyone just loved the river and many said they’re going to come back again.
‘‘We’re hoping people will return here for their next holiday now that they’ve had such a great time.’’
