Felled trees put to use in Deniliquin lagoon

Trees removed from Deniliquin's Hardinge St oval will become habitats for aquatic animals as part of the ongoing lagoon project.

New habitats have been created at the McFaull Park Lagoon as part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the area.

Tree stumps removed from the Hardinge St oval will create a natural environment for the various marine animals that inhabit the water.

Riverina Earthworks and Murray Constructions are assisting with the project, with a crane used to lift the tree stumps into the lagoon yesterday.

Murray Catchment Management Authority catchment officer - water Dr John Conallin, who is driving the project, assisted from a boat on the lagoon.

‘‘This will provide a refuge for ducks, habitat for pigmy perch, for turtles and birds to rest on and water rats to feed on,’’ Dr Conallin said.

‘‘It will also create a centrepiece for the bird hide.’’
