No one injured in Mathoura crash.By Tyla Harrington
Remarkably no one was injured when a Ford Futura wagon slammed into the back of an empty truck trailer parked outside the Caltex service station on the Cobb Hwy at Mathoura about 12.30pm on Thursday.
The impact caused the trailer to topple, coming to rest against a modest steel road sign, with the car wedged underneath.
A 74 year-old Lonsdale man believes he may have fallen asleep at the wheel of the Futura shortly before the impact, according to police.
Onlookers watched on in horror as the impact lifted the semi-trailer into the air, but a bus stop sign stopped it from crashing to the ground.
The truck driver was not in his vehicle at the time of impact, however Roads and Maritime Services issued him with an infringement after it was discovered his trailer was not registered.
The front end of the wagon was completely crumpled, while the truck trailer was also damaged beyond repair, according to police.
Police inquiries are continuing in relation to the cause of crash.
