Hot winds turned cold during the Deniliquin Rodeo on Saturday night, but it did not deter fans from revelling in the thrills and spills of the annual event.

Cowboys and cowgirls gave it their all in the arena as appreciative spectators cheered from around the rodeo grounds.

Deni Rodeo Club committee member Alan Calderwood said about 1500 people were in attendance.

Some of Australia’s champions from the last three years showed off their skills in the bull and bronc rides, steer roping and tying and in the barrel racing.

Local licensed premises recruited some of the night’s riders for the popular Pub Club Steer Ride Challenge, with the Pretty Pine Hotel taking the 2013 honours.
