Construction of the new Deniliquin Hospital maternity ward is expected to start in coming months.By Zoe McMaugh
Construction of the new Deniliquin maternity ward is expected to begin within the next few months.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District’s rural group manager – Border, Rosemary Garthwaite, announced the development this week.
She says a contractor is expected to be on site from Monday.
Mrs Garthwaite said the layout of the new maternity unit will support the new midwifery-led model of maternity care.
The ward itself will include two multi-purpose birthing rooms.
The model of care will introduce an opportunity for early discharge, domiciliary midwife visits post-discharge, collaborative midwifery group practice, and improved links between expectant mother and the midwife.
Building works are expected to be completed in the first half of this year.
