Deniliquin district speed zone changes

A Roads and Maritime Services review has seen some Deniliquin speed zones altered.

By Zoe McMaugh

A number of speed zones in the Deniliquin area have been altered as a result of a Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) speed zones review.

A number of sections of the Cobb Highway between Deniliquin and Hay have been changed, with some reductions and some increases.

A spokesperson for RMS, formerly known as the Roads and Traffic Authority, said the speed zones were assessed as part of the NSW Government’s Top 100 speed zone reviews.

It found speed limit changes were necessary to increase road safety on the Cobb Hwy, the spokesperson said.

There will be changes to four existing speed zones in the coming weeks on the Cobb Highway, according to the RMS.

Reductions include:

A speed limit reduction from 60km/h to 50km/h at Hay, 40m north of Lang St to 30m south of Lang St.

A speed limit reduction from 90km/h to 80km/h at Deniliquin, 100m north of Smart St to 200m north of Smart St.

A speed limit reduction from 90km/h to 80km/h at Wanganella, 40m south of Murray St to 470m north of Booabula Rd.

The RMS spokesperson said an increase will be made on the highway, with the section between Deniliquin and Wanganella increased.

‘‘In response to local community concerns and road conditions, the speed limit will be increased from 100km/h to 110km/h, 700m north of Moulamein-Dahwilly Rd near Dahwilly to 470m north of Booabula Rd near Wanganella.

‘‘This speed zone change was considered appropriate due to the quality of the road allowing for higher speeds and improved travel times.

‘‘Motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and always obey the posted speed limit.’’
