Deniliquin beach walk continues

The next stage of Deniliquin's Beach to Beach walk has begun, after much anticipation.

By Cass Savellis

Construction began on one of the final stages of Deniliquin’s Beach to Beach Walk on Tuesday.

A Murray Construction crane was used from George St to unload timber to the riverbank to create a raised boardwalk behind the Peppin Heritage Centre.

It will connect with the ramp at the river end of Edwardes St.

At its western end, the boardwalk will join with the formed walk that connects McLean Beach to the wharf near the National Bridge.

Deniliquin Council general manager Des Bilske said they hoped to have the path completed by the end of March.

‘‘We anticipate that target will be met by the end of Easter, which will be fantastic.

‘‘It will provide an excellent facility for tourists and locals who are interested in the scenic walk and want to use it for exercise.

‘‘This was always included in the Beach to Beach path, and has been in council’s plans for quite some years.’’

When complete, the Beach to Beach Walk will create a shared pathway from McLean Beach in west Deniliquin to Willoughby’s Beach in the regional park.
