Deniliquin North School's debating team defeated Griffith East in the semi final of the 2013 Primary School’s Debating Challenge on Friday.By Tyla Harrington
The Deniliquin North School debating team, the Happy Yappers, has continued its regional domination.
The school will contest the Riverina grand final of the 2013 Primary School’s Debating Challenge for the third year in a row after defeating Griffith East in the semi final on Friday at Leeton.
Team coach and North teacher Megan Hunter said the debate topic was ‘‘primary school teachers should wear uniforms’’.
‘‘The North team was the affirmative,’’ Mrs Hunter said.
‘‘We were very lucky that Cheryl Hallinan, a very experienced and skilled Deniliquin adjudicator, offered to travel to Leeton to adjudicate at the last minute and I would like to make special mention of her generosity in this.
‘‘We now go on to debate against the winner of the other semi between Yerong Creek and Sturt (next term).
‘‘The grand final will take place the first day back from school at Henty Public School.
‘‘The try-outs for the Riverina team to compete at state are also held on this day and two of our four team members will be vying for selection after the grand final debate.’’
