Rodwells auctioneer Shelby Howard was back on the job at Shepparton Regional Saleyards last week after winning the Victorian Young Auctioneer title for the second time.
He will be heading to Sydney next year for the Royal Easter Show for a second crack at the national title.
If he is successful there he stands to win a trip to Canada for an international competition.
Shelby, 23, won the Victorian title in Melbourne last year and last Monday, September 23, beat off the other competitors at the Pakenham saleyards to win again.
Last week’s final was held in the more customary venue, just after the regular fat market, which Shelby appreciated.
Yea auctioneer Ryan Sargeant, from Elders, did well to become runner-up.
The auctioneer challenge is organised by the Australian Livestock and Property Agents Association.
The young auctioneers are assessed on their diction, values, voice and manner by a panel of judges with strong selling backgrounds.
Shelby had to sell three lots of three cattle.
He’s bracing for a tough competition in Sydney, knowing he’ll be facing the nation’s best.
