Water trading made simple

New water trading co-operative Waterpool is co-ordinating a series of seminars to explain water trading issues.

Dubbed The water puzzle — putting the pieces together, the seminars will bring together DPI, DSE, Farmanco and Murray Dairy.

Key presentations include: carryover water, spillable water accounts, reserve policy, water share ownership, tax implications of sealing water shares, risk analysis of water share holdings and how to trade.

Waterpool chief executive Peter Lawford said education was part of their mission and it was clear there was some confusion around the management of water trading.

‘‘We hope this will give irrigators more tools to work with in making decisions about water trading, understanding changing resource positions and how seasonal conditions affect allocations,’’ Mr Lawford said

Speakers include Joe Banks from DSE, Rob O’Connor from DPI Victoria, Ian Gibb and Cameron Smith from Farmanco, accountant Gino D’Augello and Mr Lawford.

The seminars will be held at:

Calivil Hall, Wednesday, March 20 at 10.30am.

Rochester Golf Club, Wednesday, March 20 from 7pm.

Kerang Golf Club, Thursday, March 21 from 10.30am.

Leitchville Bowls Club, Thursday, March 21 from 7pm.

Tatura Ballantyne Centre, Tuesday, March 26 from 7pm.

Tongala Football Club, Wednesday, March 27 from 10.30am.

Tallygaroopna Bowls Club on Wednesday, March 27 from 7pm.

The sessions include lunch or supper and bookings can be made with Murray Dairy or Waterpool.
