Yalca's Ashleigh Cusack, 16, photographed this snake in a hay bale.

Yalca’s Ashleigh Cusack, 16, sent in this great picture to Country News. The St Mary of the Angels Secondary College student was helping her father Steve cart hay off their centre pivot on Saturday, February 16. Ashleigh saw something flipping around and when she and Steve got closer, they found a 2m brown snake wrapped up in a lucerne bale.

‘‘Dad said he’s never seen a snake like that, sometimes you see their tails sticking out,’’ Ashleigh said.

‘‘Dad and I were very surprised.’’

She said they saw two other snakes that day.
