Seasonal workers' pay rates under investigation
An investigation has been launched into underpayment claims made to Fair Work Australia by Australian and international casual farm workers.
Fair Work Australia is investigating claims of underpayment from casual farm workers in the Rochester area.
Rochester police have heard complaints from farm workers from Australia, Africa, Asia and Europe, which they have passed on to Fair Work Australia.
Australian Tomato Growers Association chairman Bruce Weeks said district growers depended on seasonal workers and the town could not afford to get a reputation for underpaying or not paying workers.
