A woman has broken her leg after jumping through the window of her southern NSW house when a controlled explosion at a neighbouring munitions factory went off.

The factory at Mulwala regularly tests products with controlled explosions, a police spokesman said.

Just after 9am yesterday a woman in a neighbouring property heard an explosion and ‘‘jumped out of the window of her house’’, the spokesman said. Firefighters were called, but were not required at the scene.

Rural Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman Gabrielle Degenhardt said the woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to Yarrawonga Hospital with a broken leg.
