The Murray River Masters Jezza Number 37 motocross competition will help raise money for a young man who was paralysed while competing in a motocross event last year.

Sixteen-year-old Waaia resident Jeremy Tyndall, who is the current Victorian A-Grade Junior Champion, was seriously injured while competing at the 2012 Australian Junior Motocross Championship at Coolum, Queensland in October.

The rising motocross star fell off his bike on the first corner of the 150cc race.

Jeremy had previously won the 2012 Victorian Junior A-Grade Motocross Championship in Mooroopna last year on his first attempt.

All profits from the Cobram event, on March 9 and 10, will go directly to Jeremy’s rehabilitation fund and an auction will also take place on the Saturday night.

Jeremy said although the past six months had been very hard for him, he was very grateful for all the support he and his family had received.

‘‘I’m feeling good now, it’s good to be back at school,’’ he said.

‘‘The community has been really good and have been really helpful to us as a family.’’

He has spent the past six months recovering from the accident that left him paralysed from the waist down.

The Year 11 St Mary of the Angels Secondary College student is back at school and has started competing in wheelchair basketball one night a week in Shepparton.

Jeremy is in need of a new day (wheel) chair and is also hoping to find another more manoeuvrable and durable one that will be suitable for playing basketball.

He has been a member of the Cobram Border Junior Motorcycle Club since he was just five years old and said he was honoured that the club had decided to help him and his family in this way.

Cobram Border Junior Motorcycle Club president Rob Mestrom said they club wanted to help the Tyndall family in any way possible.

‘‘It was devastating to hear what happened to Jeremy at the nationals,’’ he said.

‘‘The motorcycling community, especially in Cobram, is extremely tight-knit.

‘‘We rallied around Jezza and his family by hosting an extremely successful BCP-Macca Coaching Fundraiser in November where we raised thousands for Jeremy’s recovery.’’

Mr Mestrom said the event would be a terrific opportunity to support the Tyndalls, who had been involved in the sport for many years.

‘‘I’d like to really encourage every motocross rider out there, not only in Victoria but Australia, to support one of their own by entering in the 2013 Murray River Masters — every little bit helps.’’

If you would like to make a donation to the Jeremy Tyndall Fund please donate to National Australia Bank, BSB: 083 629, Account Number: 145352306.

Anyone who would like to donate auction items can contact Rob Mestrom on 0417545912.

Cobram Border Junior Motorcycle Club will hold the Murray River Masters two-day motocross event to help raise funds for 16-year-old Waaia resident Jeremy Tyndall.
