Mechanics apprenticeship just the ticket for Kaleb

Youngster gets a start in industry thanks to CVGT and Cobram Truck Repairs

By Jess Craig

He’s too young to drive, but Kaleb Kennedy is not letting that get in the way of a mechanics apprenticeship.

The 15 year-old is one month into completing a heavy road transport apprenticeship with Cobram Truck Repairs.

Kaleb, a keen sidecar racer, completed work experience with the business in September.

It took only two days for the teenager to be hooked.

‘‘I’ve been working on my own motorbikes and things at home for a while and I’m really liking it here,’’ he said,

Business owners John Gooiker and Paul Elliott said they were happy to have Kaleb on board.

‘‘He was enthuasiastic while he was here doing work experience and then he came looking for a job,’’ Mr Gooiker said.

‘‘It’s hard to get kids interested in things any more — they’re all stuck to their computer screens.’’

Kaleb’s apprenticeship is facilitated by CVGT and will be completed over four years.
