Volunteers have started distributing bait stations which aim to lower the number of Queensland fruit fly in Cobram.
The Victorian Peach and Apricot Growers Association, Moira Shire and IK Caldwell — with the Victorian Government — will deliver a pilot project to all homes in Cobram, with the help of community group and sporting club volunteers.
The volunteers will hang an amulet station on a tree branch at as many properties as they can in order to reduce the fruit fly population of an area to a low level that significantly reduces the chances of fruit being stung by female flies.
It is achieved by a combination of Amulet Cue-Lure ‘attract and kill’ stations supplemented by protein bait sprays and crop hygiene.
Amulet Cue-Lure fruit fly stations are ‘mal annihilation technique’ devices designed to attract and kill Queensland fruit fly.
They contain Cue-Lure, which is a powerful attractant for male flies, therefore eliminating the chance of reproduction.
