Victorian Farmers Federation steps in to help local fruit grower.By Jessica Grimble
Today is a heartbreaking day for Tom Bisogni.
The Cobram orchardist is watching as the property he’s worked for 45 years changes from an orchard to bare land.
Mr Bisogni is just one of the many growers who have faced the same heartbreak after SPC Ardmona announced cuts to its fruit intake in April.
Mr Bisogni, a supplier for 45 years, was told his fruit was no longer required — and now he’s left with no choice but try to sell up his Campbell Rd property.
He called on the Victorian Farmers Federation to help pull the trees and this morning the Cobram Courier met president Peter Tuohey and local grain grower Bob Watters who volunteered their time, and their machinery, to help.
The process means Mr Bisogni will help to control a biosecurity threat which could affect growers able to continue their businesses.
