Cobram Barooga Visitor Information Centre staff arrived at work on Wednesday last week to find a window smashed and a donation tin containing about $150 missing.

Police allege the incident occurred between 5pm on December 17 and 8am the next morning.

Cobram police Constable Bianca Knight said police had identified at least one possible suspect.

Const Knight said the alleged offender broke a window on the building’s Station St side to enter the premises.

‘‘They ransacked the premises and attempted to break into the safe,’’ Const Knight said.

‘‘They’ve nearly made it through the safe but they’ve obviously been disturbed and left.’’

Cobram Barooga Visitor Information Centre visitor services co-ordinator Chris Crawford said she was disappointed someone would steal from the centre.

Ms Crawford said the tin was used to collect voluntary donations from people who collected the free town maps.

She said the funds paid for the maps to be printed.

The incident last week followed a similar break-in two years ago, Ms Crawford said.

‘‘It’s disruptive and it’s difficult for staff too.’’
