Cobram woman Carrie Dunn celebrated her 90th birthday with an afternoon tea at the Bottom Pub on Saturday afternoon.
Born in Hamilton, Mrs Dunn (whose actual birthday is today), has lived here in Cobram from the age of 13, and said — with her family fairly scattered — it was lovely to have everyone together.
‘‘We had my brother and sisters come up from Pakenham and my daughter who lives in Tasmania, which was very nice,’’ she said.
‘‘We are a very close family.
‘‘My children John, Joan and Sharyn all live here, but we have family all over the place, so it’s nice when we do get a chance to get together.’’
Mrs Dunn said she was from a very large family and was one of four girls and has eight brothers.
‘‘My father Richard was with the post office and got a new job in Cobram, so we moved when I was only young,’’ she said.
She married Chick Dunn in 1945 and they raised four children — John, Joan, Sharyn and Barbara — on their soldier settler dairy farm at Yarroweyah.
‘‘We have good memories on the farm, they were good times.’’
Mrs Dunn was stationed at the prisoner of war camp at Murchison, where she worked to help look after the more than 4000 people accommodated there during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Mrs Dunn is part of the Cobram and District Legacy Group and looks forward to their meetings every month and other outings organised by the group.
