Zonta to inspire Benalla girls
The sixth annual Zonta Girls Career Breakfast will be held at Wangaratta with three interesting and varied guest speakers.
The sixth annual Zonta International Women’s Day Year 11 Girls Career Breakfast is on again, with a number of interesting guest speakers.
Former students of local schools have gone on to do amazing things with their lives and Zonta president Carol Myles said she had never had a request to speak knocked back.
The women are happy to speak about their careers and want to give something back to the community in which they grew up.
Ms Myles said during the past five years the group had heard from guest speakers with careers as diverse as road making, floristry, law, visual merchandising, journalism, local politics, various health areas and teaching, to name a few.
Zonta has again secured three exciting keynote speakers:
Janelle Boynton — formerly of Wangaratta High School;
Bianca Holgate — formerly of Galen College; and
Alison Thompson — formerly of Wangaratta High School.
All three will speak briefly about their careers giving students an insight into their particular work.
The three guest speakers have done very different things with their life after school, from architecture, winemaking, event co-ordination, psychology and cake making.
Alison Thompson (pictured) has been passionate about baking since she was a child.
She completed her education at Wangaratta High and was part of the inaugural Secondary TAFE Industry Training Scheme where she studied hospitality alongside her VCE.
She now has more than 15 years experience as a professional chef and pastry chef.
She has written numerous books and made and decorated Carlton Football captain Chris Judd’s wedding cake.
This is just a taste of the inspiration students will get as they sit at tables with mentors in their career interest area.
Interested Year 11 girls should contact either their co-ordinator or their careers advisor to apply.
Applications close February 24. Cost is only $5 and includes breakfast.
The Zonta Year 11 Breakfast will be held on Thursday, March 8, at the Gateway Hotel, Wangaratta.
