Police have warned they will not be hindered in their efforts to maintain order after a brawl in Benalla in which weapons were allegedly produced.

Benalla police attended the alleged brawl about 6.30pm Saturday, following reports of a clash between two groups.

‘‘From what we can gather at the moment a fight has broken out between two groups of men, where weapons were alleged to have been produced, ’’ Benalla police Sergeant Jenenne Stiles said.

‘‘We’ve recovered metal bars at the scene — one was located in the windscreen of a car.’’

The clash allegedly occurred at Mansfield Rd, near Gaskin St.

An ambulance Victoria spokesperson said following the alleged brawl three men, all aged in their late teens, sustained facial and other injuries and were taken by ambulance to Wangaratta base hospital.

Capsicum foam was deployed against a man who advanced on police, who then left the scene.

Sgt Stiles said police would not be hindered in their efforts to maintain public safety.

‘‘We acknowledge that there’s a minority in the community that behave in an anti-social manner and they in turn put the public safety at risk, ’’ she said.

‘‘The safety of emergency services personnel who attend these events is paramount in our ability to maintain community safety.

‘‘We do want to assure the overall community that anti-social behaviour won’t be tolerated.’’

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the brawl to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800333000.
