Two former employees at Yooralla's Benalla supported-employment centre have been accused of serious sexual misconduct.December 11, 2013 2:00pm
Disability service Yooralla has confirmed it was aware of two serious sexual misconduct allegations at its Benalla centre.
An investigation this week in The Age revealed Victoria Police sexual crime detectives charged an employee from Yooralla’s Benalla supported-employment centre.
The employee will face court in Wangaratta tomorrow, and is reportedly facing multiple counts of rape and indecent assault of a person with a disability.
A Yooralla spokesperson said serious allegations were made against an employee in 2012 after Yooralla amalgamated with CAL Industries.
‘‘Due to the level of severity of these allegations, Yooralla immediately took action in accordance with Yooralla policy and contacted the police,’’ the spokesperson said.
"The employee at the centre of the allegations was suspended from duty, pending investigation of the claims."
The spokesperson said Yooralla informed police of an alleged incident of a second employee reaching to touch a supported employee in 2012.
The supported employee did not press charges, however, the Yooralla employee was stood down on a breach of code of conduct.
