Women on Boards has launched a professional development workshop aimed at women living in rural, regional and remote Australia.

The ‘‘Directors at a Distance — Realising your Board Potential’’ workshop assists women with strategies for board and career development and is delivered via teleconference.

‘‘The format was designed in response to feedback from our geographically diverse network who were missing out on development opportunities that are mainly held in Australian capital cities,’’ Women on Boards executive chair Ruth Medd said.

‘‘Women on Boards is eager to see better representation of women on boards and committees in rural and regional areas.

‘‘Female representation on rural research and development corporation boards remained static at 22.5 per cent between 2010 and 2011.

‘‘We have a long association with women in rural and regional Australia and are very pleased to offer them our highly regarded workshops.

‘‘The pilot program was extremely well received by participants.’’

The workshop is suited to those women who are looking at long-term career options, thinking about or are already on a board or are seeking practical and strategic advice.

It provides personal advice and the opportunity to build networks online with more than 12000 women registered with the Women on Boards website.
