The Tomorrow:Today Foundation was fortunate to receive a recent visit from Kathleen Warren, writer and early childhood consultant to the Wiggles.
Kathleen, who is a Doctor of Education and has a Master of Arts (Hons) taught two of the Wiggles team while lecturing at university.
As well as being an advisor to the very popular group, Kathleen has worked as a consultant with Asia Disney, and has worked extensively with young children and early childhood educators in Australia and many other countries.
She is presently a teacher, drama adjudicator and early childhood and drama adviser who has been widely published in her field and who has presented papers at national and international conferences.
Additionally, she is a volunteer consultant to preschool programs in traditional villages in Papua New Guinea and Samoa.
Education Benalla program manager Pat Claridge said Tomorrow:Today was extremely fortunate to have had the benefit of Kathleen’s experience, wisdom and insight.
Kathleen generously offered her services to assist with program planning for the Little Giggles playgroups as well as donating valuable materials from the Wiggles Resource Collection.
Early years specialist Leonie Daniel, who facilitates the playgroups, said the children were already enjoying the challenge of the new puzzles and games.
‘‘Our playgroups are a free, fun way for parents to interact with their children whilst helping them to learn and develop,’’ she said.
‘‘We provide toys, books, games and snacks.
‘‘All the mums and dads have to do is to come along with their children.’’
Kathleen gave a big tick to Leonie’s program plan and had some great ideas about expanding the program activities even further.
‘‘We are looking forward to introducing music, drama and movement to our playgroups and Kathleen’s guidance has been invaluable,’’ Leonie said.
