An unknown sum of money was stolen from Benalla Golf Club this morning after thieves broke into the Mansfield Rd facility.

Benalla Police Crime Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Shannon Murphy said two men allegedly forced their way into the gaming room through the outdoor smokers’ area at about 2.30am, while it appeared a third waited in a vehicle on Mansfield Rd.

About nine gaming machines were forced open and money was stolen from the cash boxes, while attempts to break into the safe room were unsuccessful.

The amount stolen and cost to repair the damages is yet to be confirmed.

Benalla police and detectives remain on the scene.
