Rotary making a difference

Benalla Rotarians are making progress in trying to eradicate polio from stricken countries.

Benalla Rotarians have delivered a progress report following their 2012 visit to the Awake and Shine school in India.

Sixteen students at the school are sponsored by Benalla Rotarians, enabling them to access education and opening doors for potential future employment.

Rotarians across the world are leading the push to eradicate polio, and Rotary clubs recently made history when India was removed from the list of polio-endemic countries after celebrating two years of being polio-free.

Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan are the only countries that remain listed as polio-endemic countries.

Benalla Rotary Club and the wider Benalla community have recently welcomed Cindhy Tello to Benalla, all the way from Brazil. Cindhy will attend FCJ College and be hosted by several families during her stay, which will conclude in December.

Several Rotarians took time out last weekend to refurbish the barbecue area in the gardens, which will benefit Benalla families and travellers alike.
