Federal Member for Indi Sophie Mirabella has conceded defeat and congratulated opponent Cathy McGowan.
Federal Member for Indi Sophie Mirabella MP has conceded defeat.
Mrs Mirabella released a media statement minutes ago to congratulate her opponent Cathy McGowan after a hotly contested battle for the seat.
"Representing the people of Indi in the Federal Parliament has been a high honour and a very special privilege," Mrs Mirabella said.
"I want to thank the electors of Indi for their support over the last decade. They have enriched my life and that of my family and, together, we have achieved so much for our community."
She said today is Ms McGowan's day and she wishes her success.
Ms McGowan said the result proved democracy was alive within the Indi electorate, and was a win for the community.
"As the MP for Indi I will continue to live the values of respect and community engagement and I am so proud to be able to represent the people of Indi in Canberra," she said.
"I would like to thank Mrs Mirabella for her contribution to the public service as well as the 12 years of work she has done for the electorate."
