Mad Bastards actor and director speak at Swanpool Cinema

Mad Bastards Indigenous lead actor Dean Daley-Jones and director Brendan Fletcher spent a day with the Benalla and district community recently.

The Swanpool Cinema screening of the movie Mad Bastards was attended by its lead actor Dean Daley-Jones and director Brendan Fletcher.

Held on February 11 and organised by the Mansfield Indigenous Support Group to increase awareness of Indigenous issues, a large crowd attended from the area as well as from Shepparton, Wangaratta, Seymour and Melbourne.

The support group contacted acclaimed Australian director Brendan Fletcher who agreed to visit Swanpool and bring Mad Bastards lead actor Dean Daly-Jones with him.

The pair spoke about the movie and answered questions from the audience.

Those attending later enjoyed sports, health checks, the didgeridoo and dancing, as well as a barbecue.

Indigenous Support Group spokeswoman Marie Sellstrom said the crowd was ‘‘very, very enthusiastic and the music was fabulous’’.

Ms Sellstrom said the movie was also shown at Federation Square the same day, which showed the dedication of Fletcher and Daley-Jones in attending the country event.

Supporters of the event were Closing the Health Gap, North East Tracks, FreeZa and Benalla Rural City.
