Russell Ingall prepares for 'last stand' at Winton V8 Supercar Championships this weekend.By Monique Freer
Russell Ingall is preparing for his ‘last stand’ at Winton this weekend.
‘The Enforcer’ is retiring from the V8 Supercars circuit at the end of this season, after more than 20 years on the track.
‘‘One of the few places I’ve been on the front road has actually been at Winton, so that’s probably not a bad thing going back there,’’ Ingall said.
Ingall said he was looking forward to returning to Winton, and hoped his Supercheap Auto Racing team would have a home ground advantage at their test track.
‘‘Winton is one the few iconic places with the motor racing history still left, it’s important to keep those tracks going,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re hoping to come out there and get a good result.’’
Ingall is currently sitting in 18th position and is looking to jump up the ladder with a good performance at Winton.
‘‘I want to get a win before the year pans out .
‘‘Going back to my first start in 1996, Winton was our test circuit. I’ve done thousands of laps around that place so it’d be a fitting place to get a result.’’
When asked how he felt about his last V8 race at Winton, Ingall said that although he felt a bit of pressure about his final races, he knew that he may return one day.
‘‘You never say never in this game, one of the other drivers could break a fingernail one day and they might need a fill in driver,’’ Ingall said.
