GMCU Cleary Shield round nine week one

This week's Cleary Shield report.

Another great bowling display from St Joseph’s, which has set them up for their second outright win in a row, highlighted day one of the round nine fixture.

St Joseph’s bowled out a hapless Delatite outfit for just 37 in their clash at the Friendlies Reserve.

Opening bowlers Dale Stratton (2/15) and Glen Parmansche (2/5) did the early damage, but it was Clint Relf bowling first change that took the bowling honours with 4/9.

Youngster Sammy Gladstone chipped in with 2/7.

In reply St Joseph’s hit up 3/87 in just 20 overs before declaring and having another bowl.

Clint Relf completed an outstanding day in scoring 51.

Batting a second time Delatite have only fared a little better and at stumps were 8/54, a lead of only four runs with two wickets in hand.

Unless rain intervenes, St Joseph’s will take the 10 points and go five points clear.

Benalla had an up and down day in their game against Violet Town at the Gardens.

Batting first, they were in early trouble losing 3/18 in the first half hour.

An 86 run fourth wicket partnership between Sam Hazell (38) and Brett Pollard (59) got Benalla back in the game. However, a steady stream of wickets saw Benalla fall to 9/160 before a last wicket partnership between Ben Kunkel (26) and Patrick Hide (20no) pushed the score to a respectable 205 all out.

For Violet Town veteran John Martiniello was the star with ball taking 5/52.

Violet Town had an uneasy six overs to face before stumps were drawn, and lost their star batsmen in Simon Holmes and James Saker without scoring to be 2/5 at the end of play.

Warrenbayne toiled hard with the bat in their game against Euroa at the Racecourse Reserve, occupying the crease for the whole day, scoring 137 all out.

Mark O’Brien was at his stubborn best scoring 40, as was Lee Wydeven who was 43 not out.

Euroa skipper Ben Milliken led from the front taking five wickets.

St Joseph's bowler Glenn Parmansche sends one down as Delatite batter Mitch Purcell looks on.
