The first meeting in the refurbished Civic Centre was held last week when Benalla Rural City Council held its regular weekly meeting on Wednesday. The heritage-listed former shire offices in Mair St was built in 1958 and has been painted in the traditional colours of the era.
The refurbishment is the second of three stages in the Civic Precinct Revitalisation Project. The Customer Service Centre opened in February at the former post office and mail sorting centre, housing nearly all Benalla Rural City employees. The mayor and executive staff will be based in the Civic Centre.
The project will culminate in the opening of the Sir Edward Weary Dunlop Learning Centre in October.
