Benalla to host the 2016 World Gliding Championships
The Gliding Club of Victoria has confirmed the 2016 World Gliding Championships will be held in Benalla. The biennial l event was recently held at Argentina.
Benalla will receive a massive tourism boost with the Gliding Club of Victoria’s announcement it has won the bid to host the 2016 World Gliding Championships.
With the event due to be held in January 2017, it will mark 30 years since the club first hosted the championships in 1987.
The biennial event was recently held at Argentina, where local gliding pilot Tobi Geiger secured an impressive second placing.
Gliding Club of Victoria (GCV) World championships co-ordinator, John Switala, said the championships is expected to bring in a large number of people from around the world and not only will Benalla and district benefit, but the entire country.
