Benalla Aviation Museum gains VicTrack buildings

Two buildings in the former railway goods yards of Benalla will benefit the aviation museum which hopes to have them re-erected at the airport by October.

Two buildings presently situated in the former railway goods yards will continue to be of benefit for residents and ratepayers of Benalla after being donated to the Benalla Aviation Museum.

The site administration office and the freight truck loading shelter are to be dismantled and relocated to a new site at the aerodrome to house the growing collection of aircraft and exhibits for the museum group.

When completed, the buildings will also have space available for additional training facilities for the local 420 Squadron Air Force Cadets.

Specialised Mens Shed workshop and engineering equipment is also to be installed.

Spokesman for the group and museum president Terry Kay said the group had been working with VicTrack officials on the project for the past three years and it was gratifying to get the ‘‘go ahead’’ from council at last week’s Planning and Development meeting.

Work is expected to start by the end of March, and it is planned to have the buildings erected on the new site by the end of October this year.
